Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson is hoping to raid Brentford’s U21 squad as he deals with his own injury concerns.

Captain Kieran Murphy (knee) remains sidelined while midfielder Ryan Newman suffered a serious facial injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win over East Thurrock United.

Striker Charlie Moone, who sat out Saturday’s win that came through goals from Nick Kabamba and Michael Kamara, is also battling a knock.

“I watched Brentford’s U21s draw with Nottingham Forest and I’m hoping to do something there,” he said.

“I’m hoping Kieran will be back for us because I think he will have stopped the goals we have been conceding. He is a massive player for Hampton.

“Ryan smashed his teeth in at the weekend and while he is not the best looking lad in the world anyway, we could do with him back.

“We are making a lot of chances at the minute, but we have not got a big squad and we need a little bit more quality.”

Kabamba and Kamara scored their first league goals for the Beavers with the latter profiting from a set-piece Dowson has been working on for some time.

“Set pieces are very important these days at both ends of the pitch,” he added.

“You have to be able to defend them and you have to be able to score from them.

“If we can get our attacking set-pieces right then the players will be confident they will always have a chance of scoring and winning the game.”

Hampton, 2-0 losers at Staines Town in the League Cup on Tuesday, head to VCD Athletic on Saturday with the Beavers boss expecting a different challenge to last term.

“They finished really well last season, but changed everything over the summer,” he said.

“I’ve had them watched, but you don’t really know what to expect.”
