Harlequins will have to do something in France they have not achieved in the European Champions Cup this season to have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals – secure a bonus point victory.

Quins crashed 23-3 at home to Wasps last week meaning director of rugby Conor O’Shea’s men must score four tries in winning at Castres this weekend and hope other results go their way to make the knockout stages.

Tries from Christian Wade and Joe Simpson, plus a man of the match display from visiting skipper James Haskell, were enough to keep the hosts at bay.

Quins dominated large parts of the match, but were undone by tries against the run of the play leaving lock George Robson to admit his side would need to be more clinical in France on Saturday.

But he pointed to a bonus point victory over Leicester Tigers earlier this month as cause for optimism.

“We were not efficient enough in finishing off opportunities. There were chances where the last pass just did not quite go to hand or we took the wrong option,” he said on Tuesday.

"It has almost been the story of our season in Europe, but we have shown we can do it in the Premiership. For example, we were really good in getting a bonus-point win over Leicester.

"We are going to continue to play our brand of rugby. We know it works for us as we have shown in recent seasons and we know we are a good side when we get it right, but it will be tough out there.

"Castres have been improving in the Top 14 and to just assume we are going to turn up and get a bonus-point would be disrespectful."

Quins trio George Merrick and brothers Ross and James Chisholm all penned contract extensions this week keeping them at the club until the end of the 2017 season.

All three are products of the club’s academy set-up and academy manager Ton Diprose said: “We are really pleased to have secured George, Ross and James here for a further two years.

“All three players are incredibly exciting young talents and I am looking forward to seeing how they develop in the coming years.”
