Sir – I was interested to read in the RTT nostalgia page that 10 years ago, at an emergency council meeting, the Lib Dems voted to push through controversial plans to sell off its entire stock of council housing.

No surprise then that there is now a shortage of social rented housing in the borough.

History is repeating itself as the Lib Dems are pushing through another controversial scheme.

Instead of utilising empty properties or including affordable housing in developments as per its housing policy, it has cooked up a controversial “linked sites strategy”, which excuses it and the developer of the requirement to include affordable housing – especially on prime sites.
