Sir – The committee members and friends have asked that I write to you to express our sincere appreciation of the help and assistance received from the Rugby Football Union (RFU), as far as the youth of the area are concerned.

Our members were particularly surprised at the consideration given to them when they were escorted around the RFU premises on an August Sunday morning, enjoying such privileges as being allowed to sit in the president’s chair, come through the players’ tunnel and actually stand on the edge of the hallowed turf.

Some members have enjoyed the special privilege prices for concerts and one lucky young man and his mother were awarded tickets in one of the draws for an international match – we do not think he has recovered yet.

Two other members benefited from special tickets for one of the recent concerts.

Our members and committee understand that the RFU will apply for planning permission shortly, to continue to hold concerts for the next three years and we see no reason why it should be withheld – the recent REM concert was attended by a well-behaved audience of both young and old, who also gave support to our cafes and eateries, as well as visiting other shops in the Whitton area, which has kept Whitton on the map.
