A corpse which washed up near Kew Pier last week has been identified as a 30-year-old Polish man.

Mateusz Dajnowicz lived in Brentford and was found ‘behind Westerley Ware Park’ at 12pm on Thursday, September 22.

PC Mark Watson, who is based in Kew, said the man’s brother arrived in the UK from Poland this week to identify him.

Police could not give any more information because a post-mortem examination has not been conducted.

It was initially reported Mr Dajnowicz was in his 50s, but this was later corrected.

Witness Mark Roscoe said: “There were two police cars and a police van. Around eight officers were in attendance and one was taking pictures from the towpath.

“There were joggers passing on the towpath but the view was largely obscured by trees.

“I overheard police discussing the issue of closing the towpath.”
