However genuine the success of the ‘second referendum’ petition might be, it’s unlikely to succeed ...

But it’s got us thinking about what other debateable decisions and results even bigger than Brexit that could get a do-over so the great British public can have another try ...

The obvious one is giving England the chance to replay the match against Iceland. Everyone would have performed much better had they fully understood what was at stake.

Thirty years ago an annoying little man cheated his way to a victorious outcome – how we wish the decision to allow that could be reversed.

Lots of people regret their Brexit vote. The same thing happened in the original Pop Idol series when some people thought it was just pretend or their vote wouldn’t count, leading to a result nobody expected when Will beat Gareth.

Many people also regret their decision to buy Bryan Adams’ Everything I Do record and keeping it at number 1 for four months – they only bought it thinking the £350m weekly sales would go to funding the NHS.

It’s hard to accept how every Eurovision Song Contest since 1997 has gone against us. Why can’t the people of Europe vote properly and choose the right winners?
