Actor, comedian, musician, and producer Simon Fielder will bring his musical Buddy Holly and The Crickets to Richmond Theatre for one night only on Sunday, May 29.

Mr Fielder said he feels a special significance on returning to Richmond, having grown up in the borough and attended St Mary Magdalene's School in Mortlake.

He said: "In fact, my first ever stage appearance was at Richmond Theatre. I was five years old, playing the tambourine.

"I love Richmond, and always have. I try to go back as often as I can.

"To be honest I see it as my spiritual home. I remember going for regular walks in Richmond Park with my family as a child. It’s a great feeling to bring Buddy back to my hometown."

The musical, which has run for more than 24 years, has been performed all over the world, including in Europe, the USA, Thailand, and the Middle East.

Mr Fielder said: "The highlight for me is to see something you’ve created take off and achieve such enduring popularity.

"It’s great to star, but even better to produce because you feel so proud to have created something so popular. It’s a big thrill as a producer to know that you’ve got a hit show that people really like.

"Buddy was very influential to me growing up and it’s a great feeling to be able to share his music with audiences everywhere."

Mr Fielder’s career began as an actor in the West End show Lennon, followed by Sunday In The Park With George at the Royal National Theatre.

Since then he’s appeared in numerous BBC Radio plays and on TV. As a producer he’s worked with regional theatres, Edinburgh Fringe, overseas and in the West End.

He said: "I’ve loved having such a varied career. I would say though that Buddy will always be a highlight for me. It’s the show that I’ve lived with.

"It’s been 24 years, so it’s actually the longest relationship in my life, which is a bit sad.

"But I have great affection for it as I created it with very good friends and travelled around the world producing and performing in it. Those experiences were really good fun."
