Youngsters from schools and scouting groups in the borough were presented with Jack Petchey awards this month.

In the first ceremony at the Kings Centre, Chessington, on Thursday, November 6, scouts and scouting leaders from Richmond were presented with medallions to go with their framed certificates and a cheque for £200.

Winners included 15-year-old Will Hird, a young leader at the 3rd Hampton Hill Scout Group.

At a second ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, held at Richmond Theatre, students from 10 secondary schools in the borough were also presented with their Jack Petchey awards.

Rosaleen Williams, 13, from Orleans Park School and Tabitha Dawson, 12, from Grey Court School, were among those commended.

Rosaleen was given the award in recognition of her volunteering every week at a care home for the elderly, while Tabitha was commended for her performance in gymnastics competitions.

Mayor of Richmond Councillor Jane Boulton, who attended the event, said: "I was delighted to be part of the Jack Petchey awards.

"I hope that my presence has in a small way demonstrated how proud the borough is of its young people. The evening was very special and the young people who have received award should remember the evening for years to come."
